18 July 2015

2014 marked the 22nd year for the Nyngan Ag Expo and once again it was another successful year, with 262 exhibitors and approximately 3,600 people attending.

For just over two decades the Nyngan Ag Expo has had dedicated committee members who have always been able to deliver a fantastic informative and educational day for the community and with some extra thought and planning have been able to introduce different idea’s into the way we present ourselves to the public, this has been a fantastic achievement over the years.

The highlight for me over the past three years as Chairperson has been the donation of $20,000 to the Nyngan branch of Can Assist, this was a big boost to their funds and with this donation they were able to put it straight to use to assist cancer sufferers within the Nyngan community.

In my 3 years tenure as Chairperson we have seen we have seen growth and changes, the extension of the farming machinery in 2012, with more companies wanting to be represented at what has become known as one of the most successful events in the western area. Due to committee foresight, we introduced a car “Show& Shine” in 2013 which grew in 2014 as an extension to the Antique engines exhibition; a children’s and community area which was enjoyed by all and like our Ag Expo had a growth spurt. The growth of the sheep display this year saw 42 studs represented and has the reputation of being one of the best outside the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

In 2013 we celebrated 21years of Ag Expo with a dinner held at the Outback Motor Inn with local dignitaries and guests travelling from far afield to help celebrate another mile stone for the committee. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Claude and Mario Parisi of Cobar for their continued support and sponsorship over the 21 years and to the Nyngan Church of England Ladies Auxiliary for there fantastic support over the last 21 years in providing the BBQ to feed the masses.

The highlight of the evening was introducing Max Tremain as the inaugural Patron of Nyngan Ag Expo; Max is always there on the day to offer his support to the committee as well members of the public, this is a well-deserved award for 21 years as a dedicated member of the Ag Expo committee.

Details for the Country Education Foundation Nyngan - Max Tremain Education Scholarship (an independent subsidiary of the Ag Expo Committee) has been finalised and a special thanks goes  to the Sub Committee who will be awarding their first scholarship grant early 2015, This scholarship will be a big bonus to students of the Nyngan area. These grants will assist needy students as they strive to develop their ongoing education and inevitably assist in their chosen career.

A big thanks to all committee members for your valued support over the last three years and a special thank you to Robyn, her input at all times, has been most valuable to the committee.

To the incoming Chairperson – Rod Dewhurst, I will be available to impart any knowledge I have gained in the past three years and I wish him the very best for his tenure as Chairperson. I am confident that he will enjoy this time as much as I have.
